What Is Bone Grafting?

Bone grafting is an advanced dental procedure designed to rebuild and strengthen areas of the jawbone that have lost volume due to tooth loss, gum disease, trauma, infection, or long-term denture use. A strong and healthy jawbone is essential for supporting dental implants because implants rely on the bone structure to provide stability and long-term success. When a patient does not have enough bone density or volume, a bone graft may be recommended to create a stronger foundation before implant placement.

At Cape Coral Dentistry, Dr. Wesley Nelson carefully evaluates each patient’s oral health, bone structure, and implant goals to determine whether bone grafting is needed. Using advanced diagnostic technology, Dr. Nelson creates a personalized treatment plan designed to restore the strength and stability of the jaw while helping patients move forward with their dental implant journey. For patients in Cape Coral who have been told they may not qualify for implants due to bone loss, bone grafting can provide an opportunity to rebuild the foundation needed for a healthy, beautiful smile.

Creates a Strong Foundation for Dental Implants

Dental implants require adequate bone support to remain stable and function like natural teeth. Bone grafting helps restore areas where bone volume has decreased, allowing Cape Coral Dentistry patients to have a stronger foundation for successful implant placement.

Prevents Further Jawbone Deterioration

After tooth loss, the jawbone can gradually shrink because it no longer receives stimulation from the tooth root. Bone grafting helps rebuild weakened areas and supports the preservation of jaw structure, helping maintain facial appearance and oral health.

Expands Treatment Options for Patients With Bone Loss

Many patients who have experienced bone loss believe dental implants are no longer an option. A bone graft can often restore the necessary bone volume, giving patients additional restorative options that may not have been available previously.

I highly recommend this dental office! I’ve been going here for many years and have never been disappointed! They are a small private practice so they really get to know you (they literally ask how my dog is doing by name) and you feel comfortable the second you walk in the door. Everyone is so friendly and professional, from reception to the dental hygienists to the doctor and his assistants! Always very honest, fair and upbeat!

I had a family emergency. This office took care of me like I was family. I broke a tooth. I was in pain. I called up. They took me the same day. They did a crown prep the very next day. They had a crown and installed it I just could not get over all the help that they gave me what I recommend these people to anyone else you bet your life I would.
