What Is Cone Beam Imaging?

Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT), also known as cone beam imaging, is an advanced dental imaging technology that creates highly detailed three-dimensional images of the teeth, jawbone, nerves, sinuses, and surrounding oral structures. Unlike traditional dental X-rays that provide only a two-dimensional view, CBCT allows Dr. Wesley Nelson to examine the complete anatomy of a patient’s oral structures from multiple angles, providing valuable information for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.

At Cape Coral Dentistry, cone beam imaging helps Dr. Nelson make informed decisions for a wide range of dental procedures, including dental implants, bone grafting, extractions, root canal treatment, and other complex restorative treatments. The detailed images allow the team to identify important anatomical features, evaluate bone density, and develop treatment plans designed around each patient’s unique needs. For patients in Cape Coral, advanced CBCT technology provides a clearer understanding of their oral health while supporting safer, more predictable dental care.

Provides Detailed 3D Views of Oral Structures

Traditional X-rays provide valuable information, but cone beam imaging offers a more complete view by capturing three-dimensional images of the teeth, jaw, and surrounding tissues. This allows Dr. Wesley Nelson to evaluate areas that may not be visible with standard imaging alone.

Improves Dental Implant Treatment Planning

Successful dental implants require careful evaluation of bone height, width, and the location of important structures such as nerves and sinuses. CBCT imaging allows Dr. Nelson to precisely assess implant placement locations and develop a customized treatment plan for predictable results.

Enhances Diagnostic Accuracy

Cone beam imaging helps identify conditions such as hidden infections, impacted teeth, bone abnormalities, and other concerns that may not be visible during a traditional exam. More detailed information allows for earlier detection and more accurate treatment recommendations.

I highly recommend this dental office! I’ve been going here for many years and have never been disappointed! They are a small private practice so they really get to know you (they literally ask how my dog is doing by name) and you feel comfortable the second you walk in the door. Everyone is so friendly and professional, from reception to the dental hygienists to the doctor and his assistants! Always very honest, fair and upbeat!

I had a family emergency. This office took care of me like I was family. I broke a tooth. I was in pain. I called up. They took me the same day. They did a crown prep the very next day. They had a crown and installed it I just could not get over all the help that they gave me what I recommend these people to anyone else you bet your life I would.

Questions Cape Coral
Dental Patients Ask

Cone beam imaging is used to provide detailed 3D views of the teeth, jawbone, nerves, and surrounding structures. Dr. Wesley Nelson may recommend CBCT imaging for dental implants, bone grafting, oral surgery planning, complex dental concerns, or situations where traditional X-rays do not provide enough information.

No. Traditional dental X-rays provide two-dimensional images, while cone beam imaging creates three-dimensional images that allow Dr. Nelson to examine the teeth and jaw from multiple angles. This additional detail can improve diagnosis and treatment planning.

Yes. Cone beam imaging is considered a safe diagnostic tool when used appropriately. The technology captures detailed images while using a controlled amount of radiation, and Dr. Nelson only recommends CBCT scans when the additional information can benefit patient care.

No. A CBCT scan is a quick and comfortable process. Patients simply remain still while the imaging equipment rotates around the head to capture detailed images. There are no injections, discomfort, or preparation required.

Dental implants require careful placement to ensure proper support and function. Cone beam imaging allows Dr. Nelson to evaluate bone quality, available space, and the location of important structures before creating an implant treatment plan.

The cost of cone beam imaging depends on the reason for the scan and the type of treatment being planned. During your consultation, Dr. Wesley Nelson will explain why imaging is recommended and discuss any associated costs before moving forward.

Yes. Cape Coral Dentistry uses advanced diagnostic technology, including cone beam imaging when appropriate, to help plan implant procedures and other complex treatments. Dr. Nelson combines detailed imaging with personalized care to help patients achieve healthy, predictable results.
